Our site is designed to educate about designer spice racks and different
kinds of spice to put in your spice rack.
Take a look in your pantry. You’ll probably find that there are
one or more themes running through your food store. Maybe you’re
big on a lot of spicy food, or Mediterranean food, or good old American
cuisine. All of these different types of food require different spices.
In fact, any chef worth his salt will tell you that a good kitchen requires
a tremendous number of spices.
The New Basics Cookbook by Julee Rosson and Sheila Lukins recommends
that you stock your kitchen with over 30 spices and dry herbs for basic
cooking needs. These include basil, rosemary, bay leaves, cardamom,
chili powder, dill, mint, curry powder, sweet and hot paprika, pickling
spices, tarragon, sesame seeds, saffron threads, and poppy seeds among
others.
In addition to the spices listed here, you likely have spices that you
enjoy keeping around the house. You may want to use spices for homeopathic
purposes. Of course, then you will need to look into larger designer
spice racks for storing your cooking spices as well as your healing
herbs and magic remedies.
Designer spice racks are specially made spice racks that are suited
to your spice storage needs. You can purchase one or even make one yourself.
(Making a designer spice rack will require a hammer, saw, and nails
and can be done relatively easily if your design is simple; however,
for an elaborate construction you will need to be an experienced do-it-yourselfer.)
While a standard spice rack usually only has only one option for hanging,
a designer spice rack can be stored in your kitchen in more than one
way. Designer spice racks can be wall mounted or cut to fit a drawer
so that they are neatly tucked away. It can fit inside a pantry door
in your kitchen or hang on the inside or outside of a cabinet. Designer
spice racks can be wall mounted with screws (though if you drill into
drywall you will want to find a stud and use drywall screws in addition
to metal screws).
Designer spice racks come in different materials and add to your interior
decor. You can find a spinning spice rack that sits on in island or
hangs from your kitchen ceiling. The spice rack can be made of wood,
wrought iron, stainless steel or any combination of the three.
Designer spice racks make wonderful housewarming gifts. Of course, you
will need to do a little homework to find out what your recipients'
storage needs are and where they would like to put their spice rack.
Invite them over to dinner and discuss your own cooking to get them
to start talking about their kitchen needs. Then, go to an online or
brick-and-mortar retail store to pick out a designer spice rack that
will fit in with their home decor and help them feel comfortable in
their new kitchen.
